ਕਾਲਜ ਬਾਰੇ ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ
ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਕਾਲਜ ਘਨੌਰ, ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਪਟਿਆਲਾ ਦੇ ਕਾਂਸਟੀਚੂਐਂਟ ਕਾਲਜਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਇਕ ਹੈ।ਇਸ ਦੀ ਸਥਾਪਨਾ ਸਾਲ 2011 ਵਿਚ ਹੋਈ ਸੀ। ਗਿਆਰਵੀਂ ਪੰਜ ਸਾਲਾ ਯੋਜਨਾ ਵਿਚ, ਭਾਰਤ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਵਲੋਂ, ਦੇਸ਼ ਵਿਚ ਉਚੇਰੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਵਿਚ ਪੱਛੜੇ ਖੇਤਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਚਾ ਚੁੱਕਣ ਲਈ ਫੈਸਲਾ ਲਿਆ ਗਿਆ। ਅਜਿਹੇ ਖੇਤਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਪਛਾਣ, 2001 ਦੀ ਜਨਗਣਨਾਂ ਸਮੇਂ ਉਚੇਰੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਦੀ gross enrollment ratio ਦੇ ਆਧਾਰ ਤੇ ਕੀਤੀ ਗਈ। ਦੇਸ਼ ਦੇ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਬਲਾਕਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਭਟਞ ਦੇਸ਼ ਦੀ ਅੋਸਤ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਘੱਟ ਸੀ, ਦੀ ਪਛਾਣ ਕੀਤੀ ਗਈ। ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਭਾਰਤ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਵਲੋਂ ਅਜਿਹੇ 374 ਬਲਾਕਾਂ ਵਿਚ 'ਮਾਡਲ ਡਿਗਰੀ ਕਾਲਜ' ਖੋਲਣ ਦਾ ਫੈਸਲਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ। ਘਨੌਰ ਕਾਲਜ ਵੀ ਇਸੇ ਸਕੀਮ ਅਧੀਨ ਸਥਾਪਤ ਹੋਇਆ। ਇਹ ਕਾਲਜ, ਪਟਿਆਲਾ ਜਿਲ੍ਹੇ ਦੇ ਘਨੌਰ ਕਸਬੇ ਵਿਚ, ਪਟਿਆਲਾ ਤੋਂ 27 ਕਿਲੋਮੀਟਰ ਦੀ ਦੂਰੀ ਤੇ ਸਥਿਤ ਹੈ। ਕਾਲਜ ਦਾ ਕੁੱਲ ਰਕਬਾ ਲਗਭਗ 18 ਏਕੜ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਵਿਚ ਤਿੰਨ ਅਕਾਦਮਿਕ ਬਲਾਕ, ਇਕ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧਕੀ ਬਲਾਕ, ਖੇਡ ਸਟੇਡੀਅਮ, ਲਾਇਬੇ੍ਰਰੀ, ਕੰਟੀਨ ਅਤੇ ਹਰੇ ਭਰੇ ਲਾਅਨ ਖਿੱਚ ਦਾ ਕੇਂਦਰ ਹਨ। ਇਹ ਕਾਲਜ ਸੜਕਾਂ ਰਾਹੀ ਪਟਿਆਲਾ, ਅੰਬਾਲਾ, ਰਾਜਪੁਰਾ ਅਤੇ ਇਲਾਕੇ ਦੇ ਪਿੰਡਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਸਮੇਂ ਬੀ.ਏ., ਬੀ.ਐਸ.ਸੀ.(ਨਾਨਮੈਡੀਕਲ), ਬੀ.ਕਾਮ, ਬੀ.ਸੀ.ਏ., ਪੀ.ਜੀ.ਡੀ.ਸੀ.ਏ., ਐਮ.ਐਸ.ਸੀ. (ਆਈ.ਟੀ.), ਐਮ. ਕਾਮ. ਅਤੇ ਐਮ.ਏ. (ਪੰਜਾਬੀ) ਦੇ ਕੋਰਸ ਕਾਲਜ ਵਿਚ ਚੱਲ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।
ਕਾਲਜ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਭਾ ਨਿਖਾਰਨ ਲਈ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਹਿ ਵਿਦਿਅਕ ਗਤੀਵਿਧੀਆਂ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕਿ ਖੇਡਾਂ, ਵਿਦਿਅਕ ਟੂਰਾਂ, ਯੂਥ ਫੈਸਟੀਵਲ, ਸੈਮੀਨਾਰਾਂ, ਐਨ.ਐਸ.ਐਸ. ਆਦਿ ਵਿਚ ਭਾਗ ਲੈਣ ਦੇ ਭਰਪੂਰ ਮੌਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਦਾਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਕਾਲਜ ਦੇ ਅਧਿਆਪਕ ਬਹੁਤ ਹੀ ਯੋਗ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਵਿਸ਼ੇ ਵਿਚ ਨਿਪੁੰਨ ਹਨ। ਅਧਿਆਪਕ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਸਮੇਂ ਦਾ ਹਾਣੀ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਸਮੇਂ ਸਮੇਂ ਤੇ ਰਿਫ਼ਰੈਸ਼ਰ ਕੋਰਸ, ਓਰੀਐਂਟੇਸ਼ਨ ਕੋਰਸ, ਵਰਕਸਾyਪਾਂ, ਸੈਮੀਨਾਰਾਂ, ਕਾਨਫਰੰਸਾਂ, ਗੋਸ਼ਟੀਆਂ ਆਦਿ ਵਿਚ ਭਾਗ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਬਹੁਤ ਥੋੜੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ, ਪੁਆਧ ਦੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਤੇ ਸਥਿਤ, ਇਸ ਕਾਲਜ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਨਿਵੇਕਲੀ ਪਛਾਣ ਬਣਾ ਲਈ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਕਾਲਜ ਲੜਕੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਵਿੱਦਿਆ ਵੱਲ ਉਚੇਚੇ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਧਿਆਨ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਪੰਜਾਬ ਅਤੇ ਹਰਿਆਣਾ ਦੇ ਬਾਰਡਰ ਨੇੜੇ, ਘੱਗਰ ਦਰਿਆ ਦੇ ਦੋਵੇੇਂ ਪਾਸੇ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਲਗਭਗ 100 ਪਿੰਡਾਂ ਲਈ, ਇਹ ਕਾਲਜ, ਇੱਕ ਚਾਨਣ ਮੁਨਾਰੇ ਦੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਖੇਤਰ ਵਿਦਿਅਕ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਪਛੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਪਰੰਤੂ ਹੁਣ ਸਥਿਤੀ ਬਦਲ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ। ਕਾਲਜ ਦੇ ਲਗਭਗ 1100 ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ 600 ਤੋਂ ਜ਼ਿਆਦਾ ਲੜਕੀਆਂ ਹਨ। ਆਸ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਕਾਲਜ ਇਸ ਇਲਾਕੇ ਦੇ ਵਿਦਿਆ ਦੇ ਮਿਆਰ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਨਾਲ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿਚ ਵੀ ਵੱਡੇ ਸੁਧਾਰ ਲਿਆਵੇਗਾ।

About the College
University College, Ghanaur is one of the constituent colleges of Punjabi University, Patiala. It was established in the year 2011. The Government of India, under the 11th plan, decided to uplift the state of higher education in backward areas of the country. For this, the gross enrollment ratio was taken as an indicator. On the basis of the Census of India, 2001, the blocks with gross enrollment ratio in higher education, lower than the national average were identified. As such, the government planned to open 'Model Degree Colleges' in 374 such blocks in the country. University College, Ghanaur was established under this scheme. It is situated in Ghanaur at a distance of about 27 km from Patiala. The College is spread over an area of 18 acres. It has three academic blocks, one administration block, a sports stadium, a library, lush green lawns, and a canteen. It is well linked by road with Patiala and Ambala city and nearby villages. In college students are enrolled in B.A., B.Com., B.Sc.(Non-Medical), B.C.A., P.G.D.C.A., M.Sc. IT(Lateral Entry), M.Com., and M.A. (Punjabi).The College encourages students to participate in co-curricular activities, Seminars, Conferences, Sports meets, Youth festivals, etc. for their personality development. The College has highly qualified and competent staff. The teachers regularly participate in Seminars, Conferences, Workshops, and refresher/orientation courses in order to update themselves. In a very short period, the college has emerged as a lighthouse in the 'Puadh' region of Punjab. It particularly caters to the needs of girl students. The catchment area of this college lies along the border region of Punjab and Haryana around the river Ghaggar. It is an educationally backward region. Before the establishment of this college, the people did not send their wards, especially girls, for higher education. The reason being the girls have to travel to Patiala or Ambala. But now the situation has improved. The present strength of students in the college is around 1100. Out of these, more than 600 are girls. I hope that this institution will help raise the standard of education and subsequently the standard of living in this region.
